Pizza Tower, developed by the small indie team Tour De Pizza, released to wide acclaim in 2023 and quickly became a cult favorite for its breakneck, momentum-obsessed platforming clearly inspired by the Wario Land series — particularly its emphasis on speed and destruction over careful, deliberate movement. Its hand-drawn, deliberately manic animation style and irreverent humor helped it stand out sharply in an indie platformer market often dominated by more polished, restrained visual styles.
The game's design revolves heavily around building and maintaining speed through entire levels rather than pausing to carefully navigate obstacles, with a unique "escape" sequence at the end of each level that punishes players who explored too slowly by demanding an even faster, high-pressure sprint back to the start.
The objective is to blast through each level as fast and destructively as possible while completing exploration and collection goals, capping off with the intense escape sequence that rewards a level fully mastered.
It's a genuine indie standout with some of the most exhilarating momentum-based platforming around. GBK Games also has Fancy Pants 3 for more fluid, momentum-driven platforming.
