Background

Wordle was created by software engineer Josh Wardle, originally as a small personal project for his partner, before its public release in late 2021 turned it into arguably the biggest viral gaming phenomenon of the following year. Its shareable, spoiler-free grid of colored squares — which players posted daily on social media without revealing the actual word — became a defining piece of internet culture, and the game's massive popularity led to The New York Times acquiring it in early 2022.

Its once-a-day format was a deliberate design choice that set it apart from typical endlessly replayable browser games, creating a shared daily ritual where everyone worldwide was solving the exact same puzzle, which fueled enormous amounts of social comparison and conversation.

How to Play

Goal & Purpose

The objective is to guess the secret five-letter word within six attempts, using the color-coded feedback from each guess to logically narrow down the correct answer.

Why Play Wordle

It's the word game that became a genuine global cultural phenomenon. If you enjoy word-based puzzles, GBK Games also has Google Feud for another word-guessing challenge.
